Congo embodies Canopy’s work philosophy—but with a twist—, as it’s only made in exceptional vintages, using bunches of grapes carefully selected by hand during the early hours of the morning.
The Congo vineyard is a 60-year-old vineyard measuring barely a hectare on granitic soil, found at an altitude of 750 meters on the southern foothills of the Sierra de Gredos.
During the microvinification of Congo, fruit freshness and minerality have been left intact as much as possible to imbue the wine with the distinctive personality of a unique vineyard like few others on the Iberian Peninsula.
Without a doubt, this careful vinification process is reason enough for the name of Canopy’s new wine, as Congo is an allusion to the Spanish coined phrase “valer un Congo”, an idiom that means that something costs a lot of money, akin to “costing an arm and a leg”.

Tasting notes
Unexpected notes of red fruits, strawberries, blueberries and plum. Floral aromas of violets together with hints of chocolate and hazelnut. It’s simply delightful and opens up in the glass.
In the mouth, it’s broad and tasty, with sweet and ripe tannins that pay homage to and enhance the wine, helping to appreciate all the minerality of the old vineyard from where it comes. It leaves a pleasant, persistent aftertaste in the mouth.
You’ll like…its personality and uniqueness, with the magnificent touch of oak that beautifully complements the red fruit, simply brimming with nuances.
Here’s something else…Its score of 93 Parker points is a testament to the quality of this wine, which gives off a sweet, fruity aroma tempered by the austerity of granitic soils.
