Malpaso is a single-varietal Syrah wine that expresses—as few others can—the full potential of this grape variety, which is perfectly suited to the harsh conditions of the Méntrida region. Malpaso is a clear reflection of the goal with which this winery in Toledo was founded, which is none other than to create wines with the vines as the starting point, practicing organic winegrowing while showing the utmost respect for the grape.
Made using Syrah grapes from the 35-year old trellised Syrah vines that the winery has in the municipality of Camarena, Malpaso is a powerful, well-structured wine that is full-bodied with a long-lasting finish.
The sandy soil on which the vineyards lie at an altitude of 400 meters is ideal for the fruit to reach its peak ripeness. What’s more, the climate in the area—which is particularly dry with great variations in temperature between the summer and the winter—and twelve months’ aging in 500-liter French oak barrels combine to make Malpaso a round, elegant wine with a great personality.

Tasting Notes
It’s a red wine with a deep cherry color. The nose is marked by the common characteristics of Syrah of black fruits and Mediterranean herbs, nuanced by the fine notes of its aging in French oak. In the mouth, it’s powerful, with a structure of abundant ripe tannins, great volume and an acidity that brings the whole together. A full, rich and persistent finish rounds off the overall impression.
You’ll like…its varietal aromas of black fruits further enhanced by the soil on which the grapes are grown.
Here’s something else…This wine got 92 Parker points in other vintages.
